We knew how fast this 2016 race last Sunday was at Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course when Illinois runners Danny Kilrea and Katelynne Hart were close to the individual meet and course records. When you look at the overall team times, you can see that this meet was the fastest ever.
Neuqua Valley ran a 15:32.9 average on their top five in winning the Boys team championship. Four teams from this meet had faster average times to last year’s NXR Midwest Regional winner Sandburg ran (15:45.0). It gives a good case for the third and fourth place teams for at-large bids in a couple of weeks. Mahomet-Seymour finished third but has the seventh fastest team average ever at this meet. They were tenths of a second ahead of 2014 top finishers Sandburg and Carmel IN that went on to run in Portland. Lyons Township finished fourth but with Danny Kilrea and Vince Zona leading the way, they have the fourth fastest team average ever in this meet (15:43.1).
Carmel IN ran the fastest team average ever in the Girls race (18:16.0) even though they did not have their top finisher Sarah Leinheiser finishing. It shows how strong this team has been this season. Minooka finished third in at large position right now but had the second fastest average in this meet ever (18:18.6) placing their first 3 runners in the first 15. They should be racing in Portland in December. The same applies to Yorkville. They finished fourth with the tenth fastest team average ever in this meet (18:37.3). Just like Minnoka, they should be going to Portland.
