Jon Davis dominated this category for the past three years before heading to the University of Illinois. His protégé Logan Hall of Arthur-Lovington stepped into the spotlight this spring not only in Class 1A but also Illinois.

Hall put up some great times in the 3200 Meter Run starting with a second-place finish at Distance Night in Palatine running 9:11.06. He pulled away from Hinckley-Big Rock’s Tanner Chada to win the 3200 Meter Run at the state meet. He came back to finish third behind Chada in the 1600 Meter Run later in the meet. Hall’s big race of the year came in June at the Midwest Distance Classic when he finished fourth achieving a personal best (9:05.75). That time was the sixth fastest in the state regardless of classification.

Riley Wells of Rockford Christian showed in his freshman year in 2016 what kind of talent he had. Wells the anchor for Rockford Christian’s 3200 Meter Relay that won the 1A state title. He also earned all-state honors when he placed sixth in the 1600 Meter Run. As a sophomore this past spring, Wells dropped down a distance concentrating on the 800 Meter Run. That move was a good one as he won the 1A state race at that distance. His time of 1:52.84 was a four second personal best as well as the second fastest time this spring in the state. Wells also ran the anchor leg as Rockford Christian won the 1600 Meter Relay.

Acknowledgements also go out to Tanner Chada who in his final Illinois high school race won the 1600 Meter Run. Chada went through injuries where he thought he would never race again. His senior year was memorable earning all-state honors in cross country and then on the track. His desire to never quit should be an example to future Illinois runners to always pursue your dreams. Jacob Bryan of Illini West also had a great state track meet. He first anchored his team to the win in the 3200 Meter Relay. Bryan then finished third in the 800 Meter Run and fourth in the 1600 Meter Run. He ended his meet as a member of Illini West’s second place quartet in the 1600 Meter Relay.

Congratulations to Logan Hall of Arthur-Lovington High School in Arthur as the 2017 ILXCTF.com 1A Boys Distance Events Athlete of the Year.
