All eyes were on New Berlin’s Kahlil Wassell in the 1A sprints heading into the 2017 track season. When all was said and done, it was Easton Bianchi of Sterling Newman Catholic that stood on top of the awards stand in Charleston.

The junior caught the state’s attention indoors when he won the 60 Meter Dash convincingly at the Illinois Top Times Championship indoors last March. His dominance continued outdoors as he went undefeated on his way to win the 100 and 200 Meter Dash at the state meet.

Wassell’s accomplishments in 2017 cannot be ignored. He did not win any state titles when he competed at the state meet. He did finish second in the 100, 200, and 400 Meter Dash last May.
