The Sub 5 Running Camp will be back for its 20th year after all. It was originally going to be cancelled in December for the 2017 camp. “That is what we thought,” Sub 5 Camp Owner and Director Janet Leet said. “It was heart breaking for me but in December after lots of facility looks and discussions we thought we might take a year off and find the right fit.” Leet found the right fit at the Timber Pointe Outdoor Recreation Center in Hudson, Illinois. The recreation center is located on 170 acres of land on Lake Bloomington 12 miles north of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area in central Illinois The center has running trails, ropes course, a pool, and more. The camp will take place this summer from July 30 to August 4. “I really needed to find the right home,” Lee added. “It’s more of a mission of mine than anything else.” Janet Leet founded the Sub 5 Running camp 20 years ago. It is the largest All-Girls overnight running camp in the country along with the longest running camp of its kind in the nation. The camp focuses on motivation, running mechanics, nutrition, and each individual runner’s goals. Leet was a 10 time All-American at North Carolina State University. She was named the Cross Country Athlete in New Jersey. Leet was the Foot Locker National Champion in 1987. She has also been a co-investigator for St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center IRB Sudy on human movement since 2011. Registration is now open for this summer’s camp. You can find information about the camp and register at www.runsub5.com. If you have any further questions about the camp, you can contact Leet at [email protected]. More news |
