Here is a look at the sectionals that took place on Saturday throughout Class 3A. Full recaps were written on the Schaumburg and Lake Park Sectionals.

Hinsdale Central Sectional

Boys Race – Zack Smith and Ryan Clevenger (North HS, Downers Grove) finished 1-2 in this race. It is the third race in a row where the Downers North duo have finished in the top two positions. Smith outkicked Clevenger and Dan Lathrop (South HS, Plainfield) to win the race in 14:36. Clevenger and Lathrop were one second behind each on the 2.95 mile Katherine Legge Course. It was modified from the usual distance of 3.0 miles due to the rain the past few days on areas of the park that were under construction.

#2 Hinsdale Central, led by the fourth place finish by Billy Magnesen and a 25 second five man split, captured the team title with 52 points. Conference rivals #10 Downers Grove North and #16 Lyons Township finished second and third. #4 Sandburg was only four points behind in fourth place. #7 Neuqua Valley, paced by the fifth place finish by Nick Bushelle, captured the final qualifying position scoring 130 points.

Girls Race - #13 Lockport placed two runners in the first nine to win the sectional title. The Lady Porters scored 62 points and were 33 points ahead of #7 Downers Grove South. #6 Hinsdale Central finished third with 103 points. #20 Neuqua Valley (121 pts) and #21 Downers Groves North (129 pts). #16 Lyons Township finished sixth missing qualifying for state by five points.

Freshman Alexa Haff (Central HS, Hinsdale) proved that she will be one of the top runners next week in Peoria running 16:50 on the shortened Katherine Legge Memorial course. Haff won by 38 seconds over fellow freshman Morgan Bollinger (Lockport Township HS).

Edwardsville Sectional

Boys Race – The rumored demise of #6 O’Fallon is fact a rumor. The Panthers placed four in the first eight including taking the first three places to win the team sectional title with 33 points. #14 Lincoln-Way Central finished second with 74 points based on the sixth runner. #15 Edwardsville finished third with the same score. Normal Community and Joliet Central were the other team qualifiers.

Patrick Perrier (O’Fallon HS) tuned up for next weekend’s state meet in winning the individual race setting a course record in the process. His time of 15:11 on the hilly SIU-Edwardsville course was 44 seconds ahead of teammate Dorrian Gordon. O’Fallon’s Steven Chorma finished third finishing four seconds behind Gordon.

Girls Race - #11 Minooka placed four runners in the first nine and five in the first fifteen to romp to a sectional title. Their split, led by the second place finish by Ashley Tutt, was 22 seconds on their first four runners and 47 seconds overall. Pre-race favorite #9 O’Fallon finished second with 66 points. The Panthers did not run without normal top five runner Samantha Lapp. They did get an individual win by Sydney Neal. The senior won by eleven seconds over Minooka’s Tutt. Allie Sweatt (Edwardsville HS) was four seconds back in third.

Lincoln-Way Central was a comfortable third with 101 points. #22 Edwardsville finished fourth with 130 points. Lincoln-Way East finished fifth with 163 points capturing the final sectional qualifying spot.

Waubonsie Valley Sectional

Boys Race - #5 Wheaton Warrenville-South placed four runners in the first seven to win the sectional title with 58 points. Luke Schroer was the first Tiger finisher. He finished second, three seconds behind individual race winner Joseph Emmanuel (North HS, Wheaton). Emmanuel’s winning time was 15:17.

#18 Naperville North used a tight 14 second split on five to finish second with 80 points. An improving Wheaton North finished third with 144 points, 4 points ahead of #23 Naperville Central. Batavia rebounded from a sluggish regional performance taking the fifth and final state qualifying with 174 points. It is the first time for the boys program to qualify for the state meet.

Girls Race - #1 Naperville North continued to dominate their competition. They won the sectional championship placing five runners in the first twelve scoring 34 points. Their split on five was 31 seconds. The Lady Huskies were led by the 2-3 finish by Maria McDaniel and Elly DeTurris. Lauren VanVlierbergen won the race by 12 seconds over the Naperville North duo.

All five ranked teams in this sectional qualified for next weekend’s state meet. #5 Naperville Central finished second with 92 points. #8 Geneva was third (111), four points ahead of #10 Wheaton-Warrenville South. #17 St. Charles North captured the final spot with 145 points.
